Post Care Avoid touching the injection site Don't touch, rub, or press the injection site for at least 8 hours after the procedure. Protect the injection site Keep the injection site clean and dry, and leave the bandage on for 12–24 hours. Change the bandage if it gets wet. Reduce swelling You can apply ice or a cold gel pack to the injection site for 15–20 minutes every 2–4 hours for the first few days. However, avoid applying ice or heat for 3 days after the injection. Take pain medication If you experience pain or discomfort, you can take Tylenol or other Acetaminophen products. Avoid taking anti-platelet medications like aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen for at least two weeks after the injection. Avoid strenuous activity Avoid strenuous exercise and activities at the injection site for at least two weeks. Avoid certain substances Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and cigarettes for at least 48 hours before and after the treatment. Smoking can reduce the effectiveness of the treatment and increase the chances of complications. Eat healthy Eat healthy foods, including foods rich in folate and iron. Stay hydrated Drink at least 64 ounces of water the day of the treatment.
